In late October this year, Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica and surrounding countries as a devastating Category 5 storm which is the strongest ever recorded to strike the island.
The scale of destruction is staggering:
- Damage equivalent to nearly 30% of Jamaica’s annual GDP
- Massive flooding, landslides, and infrastructure collapse especially in parishes like St Elizabeth, Westmoreland and others where entire communities were submerged, roofs blown off homes and roads rendered impassable.
- Widespread power outages affecting hundreds of thousands, interruption of water supply and communications, agriculture and tourism sectors crippled.
This disaster has left families without homes, basic services, livelihoods destroyed and communities facing an uphill battle to rebuild.
Our Challenge: Walking the Victoria Line for Jamaica
To raise funds and awareness, OFF THE GRID is taking on a endurance challenge and walking the full length of the Victoria Line, from Walthamstow Central to Brixton.
That’s a 24.5 km (15.2 mile) trek through London, covering 16 stations and multiple boroughs.
This walk symbolises connection, resilience and movement from one end to another. Every step we take is in solidarity with families rebuilding their homes, their communities and their hope.
Now more than ever we need to come together to support those who need it most. Our goal is to raise funds and donate them directly to the official relief channel: the Jamaican Government’s support portal (https://supportjamaica.gov.jm/) to make sure the money reaches where it’s urgently needed.

- Provide emergency shelter and basic supplies (food, clean water, hygiene kits) to families displaced by the storm
- Repair or replace damaged homes and essential infrastructure in hardest-hit communities
- Support restoration of livelihoods especially for those in agriculture and tourism sectors who have lost income
- Fund community rebuilding efforts like clearing roads, restoring power/water and enabling safe return of people to their homes
