Off Broadway Musical Theatre Fundraiser

Off-Broadway Musical Theatre in New Hope (“OBMT”) is currently in transition from our old theater (affectionately known as the “Castle”), where shows have been held since 1983, to a new theater, which will be built by the City of New Hope and ready to open in either 2020 or 2021.  The Castle was torn down as part of a complete renovation of the Civic Center Park area in New Hope, which includes, among other things, the city hall, police station and new pool and theater building.  In order for OBMT to continue to produce quality shows, we need the new theater to have at least the same space and essential requirements as the old theater. The City of New Hope was able to accommodate most of the items we would need, with the agreement we would raise some additional funds to assist in the cost for those items.  Specifically, we need to have dressing rooms for the actors, storage space for costumes, props, set building tools, and the set itself, and the required electrical for lighting, outlets, sound, etc. 

Over the past 48 years, OBMT has produced high-quality, free shows in the park. These shows are made possible through the support of New Hope’s fantastic community members, businesses, and foundations, with countless volunteer hours and valuable financial support.   Our annual budget is composed only of those generous donations and a stipend from the city.  While this money is typically sufficient to cover production costs for our shows, we do not have additional funds to help pay for the new theater.

We very much appreciate your past support of OBMT, and we write to ask you to continue your support of this valuable community asset in its time of need.  We hope to continue our tradition of “Theatre Under the Stars” every summer; any financial help would go far in keeping this tradition going in New Hope.
