Mom is Battling Cancer : Your Help & Love Needed!
The picture you see is of my mom right after she woke up from surgery. She had a full hysterectomy and removal of a large tumor on her lymphnode and a smaller one in her colon.
A couple of years ago, my mom made the incredibly brave decision to undergo invasive preventative surgery because she is BRCA positive (gene mutation that means you're more at risk to develop cancer). We thought she was home free.
This past March she was diagnosed with Stage 3 ovarian cancer. It hit all of us pretty hard since we thought we had beaten cancer at its own game.
My mom is a 4th grade teacher in Miami- telling her students she couldn't teach them anymore because she was sick was one of the hardest things she's had to do. Mom decided NY would be the best place for treatment since we have family here. I was able to move from California to New York to take care of the most important person in the world to me.
Thankfully, my mom has many people who love and care for her and who understand the financial hardships that cancer brings. As you know, teachers do not get paid what they deserve. Adding that to my very low graduate student salary means we need your help.
Whatever amount you wish to donate will be a great help to us in securing my mom's treatments in the upcoming months. I understand times are hard for everyone, so if you can't donate anything, please send Mom words of encouragement and love via phone, text, or email. Thank you so much for your help!
