Terry is such a positive person that always sees the best in everyone. You will never find him without either a smile on his face or without hearing his infectious laugh. He is 29 years old and has a longtime girlfriend of 6 years, Jessie. Together they have an almost three year old little boy, Jett.
Almost 4 years ago in June, he had a seizure and was rushed to the hospital. The doctors quickly discovered that he had a brain tumor, and soon after Terry had his first brain surgery. The doctors informed him that this would be a long road as they could not remove the entire tumor because it had branched into vital parts of his brain he could not live without.
Within the last 4 years he has had countless amounts of doctor appointments and endless amounts of treatment regimens, including chemotherapy and radiation, in efforts of stabilizing the size of the tumor and preventing its further growth. However, on Wednesday March 25th, 2015, Terry went in for a monthly MRI checkup, which revealed an abnormal MRI scan. The doctors originally thought it was bleeding of the brain and quickly admitted him to Vanderbilt hospital. The oncologist consulted with the neurosurgeons and they confirmed that it was not blood but instead there was an enormous amount of fluid build-up from the tumor that had caused Terry’s brain to shift. They scheduled his surgery for Friday morning (March 27th). Terry’s original surgeon was out of town so his partner, Dr. Chambless would perform the surgery. Terry and Jessie met with her the night before the surgery for the first time and she covered all the details and risks associated with the surgery. It was a scary time but Terry remained brave the entire time. Jessie received great updates from one of the nurses in the operation room, his vitals were perfect and everything had gone as planned. Terry’s strength was evident to everyone that came in contact with him. He amazed nurses, doctors, and therapists with his strength and determination. He did, however, have a rough day after the surgery-the draining of the fluid had caused a large pressure shift inside his brain resulting in Terry experiencing horrible nausea and sickness. He fought through it like a champ, just as he does with every obstacle set before him. He is currently recovering in the comfort of his own home and continues to make progress.
Terry is now out of work for close to 2 months, including the time he wasn’t able to work before the surgery and the time needed to recover. Through all of this, Jessie has never left his side, therefore also making it hard for her to work. This has made it even more of a financial burden for their family. On top of all the daily bills that are accumulating, they now have hospital bills that need to be taken care of. He will be required to have monthly MRI scans in addition to speech therapy, follow up appointments, and continue back on chemotherapy once he recovers from surgery, which alone can get quite expensive.
Terry and Jessie have so many friends who care about them. We know this because so many people have asked if they could help out in any way possible. So we decided to create this page to offer an easy way for everyone that would like to contribute and help them out. Jessie and Terry do so much for other people, and it is now our turn to return the favor! If you don’t have a means of donating, please just share this page with your friends and family, any little bit helps. We’re also always asking for more prayers for our dear friend Terry as he continues the fight of his life.
