This team comprised of two 3rd grade boys (Evan and Ronak) and four 4th grade girls (Ava, Delaney, Isla and Yifei), from Riffenburgh Elementary in Fort Collins, CO, has worked hard to solve a problem where they create and build a team made mechanical creature. This creature must change appearance three different times to avoid being detected by the searcher character in their skit. Each change must be different each time and has to get into, or out of, various situations. In the end the creature will surprise everyone by changing its appearance a final time to reveal its true self! All of this is done without help from any parent or other adult…completely team driven and created. This team went above and beyond solving their problem by creating a skit that is not only humorous, but has a strong message about saving the forest animals and keep the forests in their natural state.
This Division I, Problem 2: Hide in Plain Sight, Riffenburgh Elementary Team A has had a great time this year putting together their long term problem! They were shocked and excited at Regionals to learn they placed second and advanced to the State Finals. By making a few adjustments they improved their score by 73 points overall and were over the moon to hear their team name called for 1st place to become state champions! We think they may still be in shock! They now have the opportunity to advance to the World Finals competition where they will be in the company of over 800 other OM teams from over 20 countries, and will be directly competing against 75 other teams in their division and problem. This is the first time in 23 years that a Riffenburgh Elementary team has advanced this far in the OM competition…quite an accomplishment and what a proud moment for the school as well as the team!!
