How do you save the whales and harvest sustainable species at the same time? You call Dan Major.

 

For nearly 20 years, I have worked with national marine fisheries and the scientific community to learn about ocean species and sustainable fishing practices that drastically reduce by-catch. There have been significant equipment upgrades along the way, but now it's time to upgrade the boat!

 

I'm flying to Nova Scotia to purchase a boat and bring it home to San Diego in the most cost-effective manner, sailing along the eastern seaboard, across the Gulf of Mexico, through the Panama Canal and back northward along Mexico waters ! Along the way, we will be documenting this modern-day Odyssey as we travel and connect with local-area fishers to discuss sustainable practices which includes experimental ropeless gear that reduces whale entanglement. It is our sincere hope that the work we are accomplishing in San Diego waters will positively impact east coast fisheries.
