Gene's lodging & travel fund

My husband, Eugene Priester, has been a pillar of health his entire life. He has worked since he was 14 years old and the day he turned 18 he bagan working on a tugboat on the Mississippi River. He worked his way up from deckhand to pilot and now he is a captain with only a 10th grade education. He is as dedicated to his work as he is to his family. We got married and had 2 beautiful kids. Aiden who is now 8 and Jordan who is now 6. "Gene" as we call him, has worked a 14 day on & 7 day home shift for the last 24 years. He is 42 years old and has discovered he has rectal cancer. So now together we have been going back and forth to Houston to MD Anderson Hospital to get treatments. They are telling us it will be a long hard road that will last about a year. So here is our dilemma. Two little ones at home we have to support, road trips back and forth on weekends to see our kids, lodging in Houston, food, parking, all the while running a household back home for our kids. Double the bills and partial checks coming in when the red tape goes through and after only 7 weeks of regular pay his pay gets cut to 60%, needless to say that will not even run our regular household muchless the extra budget to get us through this very stressful time. He does not even know I am writing this right now because he is so proud that he would rather go back to work than ask for help or let his family go hungry and not have the life he worked so very hard to give them. I know the amount I am asking for seems like a lot but look at it from our perspective, I will do whatever I have to for Gene to get the treatment he needs to watch his children grow up and watch them graduate. He misses so many milestones in their lives as it is because of the type of work he does that I can not stand by and just let him miss the few milestones that would mean so very much to him such as graduating high school, which he was unable to do simply because he had to work to be able to feed himself. Those of you who know Gene and our family know that he would do anything in his power for anyone and never asks for help from anyone and I am not even sure if he will let me post this because he is too proud to ask for any help what so ever but for the sake of our family and this is only estimated lodging, food and gas cost during his treatments. Please if you do not think this is something you want to take time to read or even contribute to that is totally fine and for those of you who do decide to lend a helping hand I would just love to say thank you to everyone even if we can just get a few extra prayers out of this. Money helps but prayers can make miracles. God bless each and every one of you who just take the time to read my wonderful husband's story. And this just goes to show you that cancer does not discriminate against anything. My husband was a healthy 41 year old when diagnosed, so healthy he barely took tylenol for a headache and I had to make him take an allergy pill when he would get around an animal or scented candle and his eyes would swell shut. He would say, oh it'll go away. All I ask is that you consider helping in any way you see fit. Prayers, advice, funding, etc all will be very much appreciated.
