Odins Medical Emergency: Support his recovery

Odin is my 8 year old husky who loves to hike, go on walks, camp, and play with other dogs and people. He is the sweetest soul and has endless love to give. He deserves everything in life and I would do absolutely anything for him. Unfortunately Odin had a very scary medical emergency and was hospitalized for several days. On 6/6 out of nowhere later in the evening Odin threw up and was breathing very fast and heavy. Taking him outside he continued to eat grass and throw up. The next morning he threw up again, wouldn’t eat or drink, and his breathing was still abnormally fast and heavy. I took him straight to the emergency vet on 6/7 and after feeling his belly and going over his symptoms they thought it was GI related, gave him subcutaneous fluids, nausea meds, and sent us home with probiotics and said the breathing was most likely due to his GI discomfort. After that he stopped vomiting and started eating again, but his breathing remained abnormal. Monday early in the day the emergency vet called to check on him and I mentioned his breathing which they again said he’s possibly still in GI comfort but to give it another day or so and if it continues to call them. That night, 6/9, he only ate a bite of food, and did the same the next morning. I knew in my gut something else was going on since he wasn’t throwing up anymore but his breathing was still weird. I called his normal vet 6/10 to get him in that day for another check up where they did bloodwork and X-rays. Upon X-rays, they immediately found the cause. Odin had a spontaneous double pneumothorax. Both of his lungs were collapsed and his chest cavity on both sides was filled with a large amount of air. This air was the reason he lost his appetite and vomited because it put pressure on all his abdominal organs as well. His vet called the emergency vet and immediately had me drive him there to transfer his care as he would need the air drained from his chest cavity immediately and the possibility of chest tubes were talked about. That Tuesday evening he had a total of about 2 Liters of air drained from his chest cavity and he was kept overnight for observation. The next morning they found his left side had filled with air again and drained 1.5L of air. At that point they called me to update me stating if it filled with air again they would need to do surgery to place a chest tube and do a CT scan to find why it kept happening. With lots of luck and prayers, Odin remained stable and we were able to visit him that night and finally got him to eat some treats after almost two days of not eating for us or the vet. He remained stable through that night into Thursday and we were able to bring him home Thursday night to continue to monitor him. He is still at risk of it reoccurring in the next couple of weeks while his body tries to heal, and if it happens again he would need chest tubes and a CT scan. For now Odin is staying stable at home and I pray every day that he continues to stay stable and heal. The week that Odin was in the hospital was the scariest and most stressful week of my life, and I’m so happy he’s alive and at home again. The vet/hospital bills all had to be put on my credit cards and are a large financial burden, especially if he needs to go in again for chest tubes and CT, they told me it would be a minimum additional $5,000 since it’s surgery and advanced diagnostic imaging. Right now I’m praying he stays stable and just trying to raise for what I already paid. I attached his vet bills to show proof of his hospitalization and charges. Any little bit helps during the scary and stressful time and is very much appreciated. Thank you.
