ODIN NEEDS HELP
I can’t even count the number hearts Odin has touched in his life…he needs all the positive energy, thoughts and prayers his supporters can send.
Sunday night Odin presented with a fever, vet was called & I treated him with banamine (fever reducer) thinking it was just a small fever 101.9 (not to mention the heat and humidity playing factors) Monday morning at 6 am his fever spiked to 103.5 emergency call to the vet & she was at his side by 6:30am we thought it was erlichia (tick bite) & started treating right away with antibiotics, this seemed to be helping but he wasn’t turning around as quick as he should although his temperature was improving, Odin had little interest in eating & drinking, (anyone who knows Odin knows that is not him!) vet was back Tuesday to give him IV fluid’s everything was looking up, every morning Odin's temp was another degree down from the prior morning (mind you I have not left his side & have been taking his temp almost every hr to ensure there was no spikes… ) Wednesday at 10:45am I took his temperature and he was 100.4 I went to pick Mason up from school & at 11:30 I took his temp & he spiked to 103.7 banimine was given and his temp came back down, Thursday he was doing great his happy self the Odin we know was shining though at 7pm I literally did a happy dance up my stairs after feeding because Odin swiftly came over to grab hay out of my hand, YES that is the Odin we know! Then the turn came I saw Odins friend Bridget pull in within 3 minutes my phone went off that Odin was twitching & his back legs puffy, I rushed down the vet was messaged I rubbed him down iced his legs the twitching stopped but then we started to hear a clicking in his nose and he presented with a cough. The vet came out the next day and did an ultrasound finding fluid built up in his lungs indicating pneumonia, the only way he was going to get better was to go inpatient at Tufts Hospital, within an hour we had the trailer locked & loaded on the way to Tufts Hospital where they found that this is a VERY severe case called pleuropneumonia, where the fluid has spread to outside of the lungs (called the pleural space) between the lung and the ribs/chest wall, & there is an accumulation of both fluid & inflammatory material within the space around the lungs. Although very serious we are hoping this is the best bet and not neoplasia or cancer which cannot be ruled out yet.
The unbelievable medical team at Tufts were able to drain 13 liters of fluid but there is still more & we are living moment by moment, we need him to be a good patient he IS a GOOD boy & he has a little boy at home who fell to his knees when he heard the vet say, “Odin has to go to the hospital it’s the only way he’s going to get better”
Odin has a long road ahead in his recovery and he needs to crush a few criteria including; maintaining himself (food & water), (As of Sunday they want to take him off his IV fluids because he is maintaining his fluid intake himself and is eating) being comfortable (with pain medications & then without)( He is comfortable although tubes in his side are very paintful he is being a remarkable patient!) & having no fevers. (As of Sunday his temp goes up right before he is do for his fever reducer which is expected because he still has an infection) He is doing the best that he can be doing at the moment and things are looking promising! Today Monday September 11th he will be getting another ultrasound and TPA treatment.
His treatment is going to be long term, & our goal is getting him to a place where he can sustain himself & can continue his care at home. Odin is at least looking at a 10 day hospital stay which comes at a hefty price. Some may say I’m crazy for spending this money on a horse, but I’ve had him for 23 years he has always been my baby and has never done me wrong! If anybody would like to help by donating to his care feel free to donate or share.
Thank you in advance,
Love his number one fan his mom
