Odin’s ER visit
Hello everybody,
Our puppy today woke up shaky, weak, lack of appetite, and clearly in pain when using his hind legs. We knew
he wasn’t his normal self, so we rushed him to the ER. They performed X-rays and blood work. Blood work came back normal, minus some low cholesterol (this was expected since he hasn’t eaten), but the x-rays showed an oddity in his belly. He’s very dehydrated, and will need to be kept overnight with IV fluids. The muscles of his hind legs are very stiff, his x-rays show he is predisposed to hernia’s, but x-rays aren’t able to tell if one is present. Due to this, he will be on bed rest, but he has no seeable damage to his bones which is great!
The current course of treatment is to keep him at the hospital overnight, get an ultrasound done to see if he can pass the unknown object/mineral on his own and assess. If he can’t by tomorrow morning, he will have to be anesthetized, and they will perform an endoscopy to attempt to remove the material. Unfortunately, the endoscopy will most likely be needed tomorrow according to the vet. The goal is to have him back home with us by tomorrow night, assuming he won’t need surgery to remove the mass and the endoscopy is enough.
We appreciate any and all help you could offer, even just sharing this link with others. Thank you in advance. We hope to get our fur baby back home ASAP.
