WHAT IS OCTOBER IN BERLIN?
October in Berlin is a short film that aims to explore what happens when life presents you with an experience that your own beliefs, biography, conditioning, preclude you from having. It is a film that explores individual perspective, and the multidimensionality of the concept of truth.
Aisha, a Palestinian refugee, and Nathaniel, an Israeli runaway, meet by chance when they are assigned to the same hostel room in Berlin. She knows where he is from, he doesn’t know where she is from. Genuine connection on one side and sociopolitical and biographical circumstance on the other of Aisha’s conflict.
WHY IS THIS PROJECT IMPORTANT?
In the current political atmosphere we believe it is important to ask ourselves; what are legitimate judgements of others/ourselves? Should we judge someone by their country of origin? The choices of their corresponding governments? Their life conditioning? Are we first citizens or humans?
We don't have the answers, but we believe it's crucial that we ask the questions.

I’m a cinematographer and film director, graduate of the Prague Film School (2024), and currently based in Geneva. I work at Point Productions as assistant producer while also developing several narrative and documentary projects between Prague, Geneva, and my hometown, Rome.
I’m passionate about telling stories that explore human resilience, social justice, and the complexities of contemporary life. I’m particularly excited to collaborate with Gracia on this project, which brings to life a rich and thought provoking scenario — one that raises important questions about identity and the collective experience of individuals belonging to two conflicting sub-groups.

I’m a Ukrainian filmmaker and writer who had to leave home after the full-scale invasion. Now based in Prague, I’m developing my voice as a director through intimate, visually driven stories. This project reflects my commitment to telling human stories with emotional depth, wherever they’re set.

Hello, my name is Himika. My job in the set is to ‘act’ as a strict disciplinarian and make sure people don’t hate me for making them work hard. Whilst I am good at pulling the act or so I believe. In my ‘normal’ life, I secretly hope that someone can assist and direct me so that I don’t procrastinate writing about films that are living in my head.
I am super pumped to be working in Gracia’s film because the vision that she has for it is truly visionary and unique. Also, it’s a story that deserves to be told. Other than that, as they say, it takes a village- I am glad to be working along some of the most talented, hardworking and lovely crew members.

I’m a dynamic and versatile filmmaker whose creative journey spans across a variety of visual storytelling mediums, from documentaries to music videos and digital campaigns. My formal education is in Film and Television Production, specializing in Cinematography from Bharathiar University (2015-2018). My first first short documentary “Thakur” got an official selection at the Berlin Student Film Festival (2017). After that I started my freelance filmmaker journey in Mumbai, working with multiple International names like BBC UK (on projects like ‘Green Planet’ & ‘The Year Earth Changed’), Tomorrowland Foundation, Zumba International LLC, ‘Tigers on the Rise’ for Disney+ (as one of the DPs), Rolling Stone India Magazine (as a Video Consultant) , etc.
In 2024, I took a year off to connect with my inner voice again & thus moved across the world to Prague, Czech Republic to pursue my love for narrative filmmaking as a cinematographer.

I am a filmmaker with a focus on quirky stories rooted in magical realism and dark fantasy. I have a British-accredited bachelor’s degree in Creative Media Production and I’m trained in both narrative and documentary filmmaking. I juggle my time between video editing, working on sets as assistant director or sound recordist, and developing my own projects. Passionate about sustainable filmmaking, I strive to reduce the environmental impact of each new film.

Hello! I am Martina. I was raised in Spain, Madrid, but since September 2024 I have been studying in Prague Film School. My favorite things in filmmaking are Art Direction and Screenwriting and this year I’ve had the opportunity to do both many times! I love dancing, painting and writing and this is a brief presentation of who I am!

Hi! I’m Alejandra, a Mexican architect focused on sustainable construction. In 2023 my partner started film school in Prague, and I came along! Since then I’ve been happily swept up in creative projects, helping out with art direction, production, and whatever else needs doing. I’m a big fan of cinema and of cheering on the people I love as they chase big ideas, so I’m thrilled to be part of projects like this one.

My name is Kalle, and I'm an actor based in Prague, originally from Espoo in Finland. While growing up all I wanted was to be a football player. Yet, I found my passion mostly for music, which led to me writing poetry about my daily life - and some love songs on the way. While giving myself fully to music, a dear friend opened me to the craft of acting. When introducing me to a group of actors, he first made try it, then later fall in love with the visual art forms of storytelling. Suddenly, I found myself booking a plane ticket to Prague to study film acting. Now here I am!

I’m a freelance video editor, documentary filmmaker, and professor of Video Production at John Cabot University. I’m originally from a small town near Venice, and I graduated from the documentary program at Prague Film School, where I directed and edited both my own and others’ short films, working in both fiction and non-fiction formats. I’ve been working as a video editor for over four years on projects ranging from short films to longer formats. I’ve collaborated with Sky Italia and VD News, focusing on stories about social justice and human rights, often in challenging environments like war zones and rescue missions.

I’m Joel Gilabert. Music has been my life since I was a kid, from band performer to sound engineer, finally I’ve become music producer and composer. Working with different artist and music genres, I always try to find the exact word, the sweet note, the essential silence for each song. After a few years working in different professional studios, Anima Studio, placed in Dénia, Spain, is finally my home, my space for creativity.

Hi! I'm a being primarily trained as an actor and cultural manager, endlessly curious, and with a deep desire for constant expansion. I've always loved storytelling (and storyreceiving) and solving puzzles, particularly the kind that make me question myself and my own understanding of reality.
I'm thrilled to be embarking on this new adventure with the support of this very talented group of people, without whom the journey would make no sense! It is for that same reason that, from the bottom of my heart, I want to say thank you. There would be no meaning in the artistic without someone to receive it.
WHY DONATE?

¿QUÉ ES OCTOBER IN BERLIN?
October in Berlin es un cortometraje que pretende explorar lo que ocurre cuando la vida te presenta una experiencia que tus propias creencias, biografía, condicionamientos, te impiden vivir. Es una película que explora la perspectiva individual y la multidimensionalidad del concepto de verdad.
Aisha, una refugiada palestina, y Nathaniel, un fugitivo israelí, se conocen por casualidad cuando les asignan la misma habitación en un albergue de Berlín. Ella sabe de dónde es él, él no sabe de dónde es ella. Conexión genuina en un lado y circunstancia sociopolítica y biográfica en el otro del conflicto de Aisha.
¿POR QUÉ ES IMPORTANTE ESTE PROYECTO?
En la actual atmósfera política creemos que es importante preguntarnos: ¿Cuáles son los juicios legítimos sobre los demás/sobre nosotros mismos? ¿Debemos juzgar a alguien por su país de origen? ¿Por las elecciones de sus gobernantes? ¿Sus condicionamientos vitales? ¿Somos primero ciudadanos o humanos?
No tenemos las respuestas, pero creemos que es crucial que nos hagamos las preguntas.

Soy directora de fotografía y de cine, graduada en la Escuela de Cine de Praga (2024), y actualmente resido en Ginebra. Trabajo en Point Productions como ayudante de producción, a la vez que desarrollo varios proyectos narrativos y documentales entre Praga, Ginebra y mi ciudad natal, Roma.
Me apasiona contar historias que exploran la resistencia humana, la justicia social y las complejidades de la vida contemporánea. Me entusiasma especialmente colaborar con Gracia en este proyecto, porque da vida a una situación compleja y sugerente, que plantea cuestiones relevantes sobre la identidad y la experiencia colectiva de humanos pertenecientes a dos subgrupos sociales en conflicto.

Hola, me llamo Himika. Mi trabajo en el plató es «actuar» como una estricta disciplinaria y asegurarme de que la gente no me odie por hacerles trabajar duro. Se me da bien actuar, o eso creo. En mi vida «normal», espero secretamente que alguien pueda dirigirme para que no procrastine eternamente lo de escribir las películas que viven en mi cabeza.
Estoy encantada de trabajar en la película de Gracia porque la visión que tiene es realmente visionaria y única. Además, es una historia que merece ser contada. Aparte de eso, como se suele decir, hace falta un pueblo, y me alegra muchísimo trabajar con este equipo que rebosa talento, compromiso y amor.

Soy cineasta y me interesan las historias peculiares basadas en el realismo mágico y la fantasía oscura. Tengo una licenciatura acreditada en Producción de Medios Creativos y me he formado tanto en el medio narrativo como en el documental. Divido mi tiempo entre la edición de vídeo, el trabajo en rodajes como ayudante de dirección o técnico de sonido, y el desarrollo de mis propios proyectos. Me apasiona la idea del cine sostenible, y me esfuerzo por reducir el impacto ambiental de cada película en la que participo.

¡Hola! Soy Martina. Me crié en España, Madrid, pero desde septiembre de 2024 estudio en la Escuela de Cine de Praga. Mis cosas favoritas en el área del cine son la dirección de arte y la escritura de guiones y este año he tenido la oportunidad de hacer ambas muchas veces. Me encanta bailar, pintar y escribir, ¡y esta es una breve presentación de quien soy!

Hola! Soy Alejandra, una arquitecta mexicana especializada en la construcción sostenible. En 2023 mi pareja empezó sus estudios de cine en Praga, ¡y yo me vine! Desde entonces he estado felizmente implicada en proyectos creativos, ayudando con la dirección de arte, producción y cualquier otra cosa que se necesite hacer. Soy una gran fan del cine y de animar a la gente que quiero cuando persiguen grandes ideas, así que estoy encantada de formar parte de proyectos como éste.

Me llamo Kalle y soy un actor afincado en Praga, pero originario de Espoo (Finlandia). De pequeño, lo único que quería era ser futbolista. Sin embargo, encontré mi pasión sobre todo en la música, lo que me llevó a escribir poesía sobre mi vida cotidiana, y algunas canciones de amor por el camino. Mientras me entregaba plenamente a la música, un buen amigo me introdujo al oficio de actor. Primero me hizo probarlo y, más tarde, enamorarme de las formas artísticas visuales de narración. De repente, me encontré comprando un billete de avión a Praga para estudiar interpretación cinematográfica. ¡Y aquí estoy!

Soy editora de vídeo freelance, directora de documentales y profesora de Producción de Vídeo en la Universidad John Cabot. Soy originaria de un pequeño pueblo cerca de Venecia, y me gradué en el programa de documental de la Escuela de Cine de Praga, donde dirigí y monté cortometrajes propios y ajenos, trabajando tanto en formatos de ficción como de no ficción. Llevo más de cuatro años trabajando como editora de vídeo en proyectos que van desde cortometrajes a formatos más largos. He colaborado con Sky Italia y VD News, centrándome en historias sobre justicia social y derechos humanos, a menudo en entornos difíciles como zonas de guerra y misiones de rescate.

Después de unos años trabajando en diferentes estudios profesionales, Anima Studio, situado en Dénia, España, es finalmente mi hogar, mi espacio para la creatividad.

¡Hola! Soy una humana formada principalmente como actriz y gestora cultural, pero con una curiosidad infinita y un deseo de expansión constante. Siempre me ha fascinado el arte de la narración y resolver rompecabezas, sobre todo aquellos que me hacen cuestionar mi propia comprensión de la realidad.
Estoy muy (¡muy!) feliz de embarcarme en esta nueva aventura con el apoyo de este talentoso grupo de personas, sin las cuales el viaje no tendría sentido. Por ese motivo también, aprovecho para darte las gracias. No hay proyecto artístico (ni narración), que tenga sentido sin aquel que lo recibe.
¿POR QUÉ DONAR?
Es una pregunta difícil de responder. ¿Por qué donar para la creación de una película en lugar de donar a una causa directa? No estamos seguros. Tal vez por el potencial que tiene el cine para sensibilizar, plantear preguntas, generar conversaciones y debates. Quizá por amor al arte. Tal vez porque hoy has tenido un día maravilloso y crees que apoyar a un grupo de artistas es una buena manera de restaurar el equilibrio. Tal vez por ver qué hace este grupo de entusiastas.
