Timeless: ten pieces of music inspired by the land

Hi!

I'm raising money to self-commission ten pieces of music, with accompanying films, inspired by the magnificent Scottish landscape...

Ten pieces - ten iconic and beautiful sites.

This project will take the compositional process out into the very places which will inspire the music. Working from a mobile studio in a camper van, I will be spending a month this Autumn living and working in situ, soaking in the special land energies of each area and letting inspiration flow from this immersion in nature.

The sites will include: Glen Etive, Schiehallion, Assynt, Galloway Forest, Isle of Tiree, the Quiraing, Loch Tay, and Callanish Standing Stones.

I will be taking photos and footage along the way, and will also be reaching out to local photographers and artists who have also been inspired by these landscapes and would like to share their work. These images and footage will be edited into ten short films to accompany each piece of music. I will also be posting regular updates about the trip on Instagram (@oliverwcox) and Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/olivercox).

The final films and music, which will be for a combination of piano and other keyboards, percussion and electronics, will be performed live, by me, at two events in Scotland early next year (and potentially more performances if I can raise the funds). I will be making a film of one of these events. Everyone who contributes via this page will receive a copy of this film, as well as high-res downloads of two original compositions.... :)

Why am I looking for funding?

Well... there are a lot of costs involved with a project like this and sadly, Creative Scotland (the public arts funding body here in Scotland) didn't fund my application. So I am currently looking for private and in-kind sponsorship to get this idea off the ground....

Big Tree Camper Vans in Perthshire, Scotland have given me a large discount on the camper van which will be my home and work studio for the initial month of travelling and composing, so a massive thank you to them!

However, that still leaves a lot to cover. The money raised here will pay for: filming and film editing; venue hire; van hire; fuel and travel costs; projector and PA hire as well as publicity materials. 

Unless I miraculously surpass my funding target here (!) I will be doing all the work on this commission for free, BUT at the end I will have a beautiful new work to hopefully start taking to venues around the world.

As many of you will know, I recently retired from my two main career projects: my percussion duo (www.oduo.co.uk) and my role as co-artistic director at CCC (www.childrensclassicconcerts.co.uk), following a desire to create and compose more.

This project will be a fantastic way to launch the next phase of my musical career.
