WE NEED YOUR HELP!

The Oak Center Cultural Center is in need of your help! The Oak Center is an art and cultural non-profit organization aimed at supporting and providing resources for one of the most economically challenged locales in the bay area. As a community staple for over 40 years it has served some of the most vulnerable populations including low-income families and youth in the surrounding community. As with many service-oriented organizations, the Oak Center is now faced with financial crisis that threatens its continuance as a hub for an already severely underserved community. Despite overwhelming financial challenges the Oak Center continues to serve local residents.

This year has been a tough year for us and we are working tirelessly to raise money to help keep our center open. The City of Oakland County Tax Assessor’s office will place the building up for auction in January and on the auction to be sold, March 19, 2016.

We are CRYING OUT FOR HELP! Your GIFT OF LOVE can save us!  Although the task is daunting we know that with God all things are possible.

A MOUNTAIN TOP GO FUND ME DONATION PLAN Imagine the following gifts of love from businesses or personal contributors helping to save the building and our programs by giving a tax deductible gift all part of a mountain we can move to save the building.

We are seeking to raise $89,000 to keep the center from being sold for back property taxes we incurred. This figure is based on fees assessed to the center during periods for which welfare exemption status was not applied and added percentages for the current year. Over the years the center has rented space at below market rates to other non-profit organizations to stay financially afloat. We were only recently informed that although we rented at below market rates, without all such organizations maintaining welfare exemption status, standard property taxes are applied along with other major penalties to the center, which has created the severity of our predicament. Because we are only able to apply our newly obtained (2014) welfare exemption status four years retroactively (2009) there is still the period from 2004 to 2009 threatening the loss of the center. The amounts reflecting from 2004 to 2009 along with other large penalties and current percentages of new taxes is the reason for the $89,000 we are seeking to prevent loss of the building.

The loss of the Oak Center would devastate supporters, participants, and most emphatically beneficiaries of the Oak Center’s services. PLEASE ACT TODAY so that the Oak Center can continue to operate and serve the needs of those in the area. We ask that you look beyond the scope of a charitable donation and give a gift of love to an organization that seeks to spread hope to the lives of those who need it most.

Every contribution counts, there are none too big or too small! Our deepest and most sincere gratitude is extended to any support that is given even if it is only to share this with others and get the word out.

Please help us help others!
