Hello, my name is Zuleyha Aslanova, and recently I was accepted into the Ohio State University's Masters of Social Work Program. Although it all feels surreal, I have until August 2022 to be prepared... financially and mentally. This is why, this year, for my birthday, I hope to reach out to everyone I know to ask for help. I know it is a lengthy post, but if you are willing to give the time to read anything, please read the bolded paragraphs.
A little bit about my background and vision of the future - In 2019, I graduated from Washington State University with a dual bachelor's degree in Human Development and Criminal Justice and Criminology with a minor in Russian Language and Literature. After graduation, I immediately completed my internship at a youth center and later worked as an Intake Caseworker for Children Services. Currently, I work under the supervision of a Clinician as a Mental Health Counselor, where I provide one-on-one counseling to students from 7th to 12th grade.
Over the past year, I've worked with approximately 60 children suffering from one or more mental illnesses. Sadly, these numbers significantly increase each year, and 1 in 5 US adults live with a mental illness. With the guidance of a truly unique and talented mentor, I've recognized that I could justify my passion for helping people as a Licensed Social Worker.
Education is a never-ending journey when it comes to improving the quality of life and growing. I have a lot of dreams. I have a lot to do. But, most importantly, I have a lot to learn. There's no right time because there will always be something else in the way.
I know I am asking for help at a time when the pandemic changed everyone's lives, but I would like for you to view it as an investment in our youth because, at the end of the road, I will be returning to them. And every difference I make in a child's life, so do you.
The website below lays out the estimated cost. I plan to continue working to cover some costs and finish debt-free. I hope to be a full-time student and complete my degree in 4 semesters.
Any donations remaining will go to Dayton Children's.
Thank you to all who took the time to read and support me on this new journey in any way you could.
