NEWSCO Observer Group purchased the assets of the Observer Group in order to provide independent news services to Antigua and Barbuda, following the demise of the Observer Group In December 2018. The new principals, Algernon Watts and Dave Payne, with the support of several other benefactors have committed themselves to providing, maintaining and improving the much-needed service at the great sacrifice to themselves. Given the importance of the Observer Radio, the Daily Observer- now provided electronically to the Antiguan and Barbudan population at home and throughout the diaspora, this project is devised to raise funds as a sign of goodwill to the fledgling organization. No one can deny the void that was created when Observer Radio went off air. Over the past four months, the value of an independent media has been clearly demonstrated. All contenders in the political arena, civilian organizations and the public at large have benefitted tremendously through unfettered access to the media. Newsco Observer has committed itself to remain the vehicle for the defense of freedom of speech, freedom of expression and freedom of the press. As a nation, we owe it to ourselves to support this initiative. we owe it to the two pioneers, Winston and Fergie Derrick, who founded this radio station and to their families, who fought valiantly to preserve their legacy.
I reiterate the challenge which I made to all Antiguans and Barbudans, at home and abroad and to all right-thinking persons, who support our fundamental rights to freedom of expression; freedom of speech and freedom of the press to make a sacrificial contribution on May 15 2019 Observe Goodwill Day.
