Hip Hip Hooray for Obi
Meet Obi. He is a 6-month-old German Shepherd with a spirit much bigger than his body currently allows. We brought him into our lives at three months old, dreaming of long forest walks and beach runs with our older dog, Pickle.
Recently, those dreams have hit a painful wall. Over the last month, our playful, placid boy has struggled just to finish a short walk. After seeing him in pain, our super vets performed X-rays, and the news was devastating: Obi has severe hip dysplasia in both hips.
Why Your Help is Critical
The diagnosis is extremely bad, particularly on his right side (see x-ray). At only 6 months old, Obi should be in the prime of his puppyhood. Instead, he faces a future of chronic pain unless we can act now.
The specialists have recommended two total hip replacements, at a total cost of £15,600 (£7800 each). These two total hip replacements must be staggered to give him the best chance of a full recovery. Under the guidance of the Vet, we are aiming for the first surgery when he is 8–9 months old (April -May), with the second to follow next year.
While we do have decent pet insurance, it only scratches the surface of a £15,600 bill. This leaves us with a mountain to climb to give Obi the life he deserves. Our total target is £7600
How can you help?
We are asking for your support to get Obi back on his paws! Every donation, no matter how small, goes directly toward:
- The first surgery (Right hip) will be later this year, in April-May
- Post-operative rehabilitation and pain management.
- The second surgery (Left hip) in 2027.
If you can’t donate, please share Obi’s story. A share to your Facebook, Instagram, or a local dog-walking group would be amazing, to help us foot the bill for Obi’s surgery
Our aim is simple: We want Obi to know what it feels like to run through the forest without pain
