Oana & Emma are fighting cancer together

I am writing this as Oana’s close friend, but also as someone who wants to help her reach the full goal of this campaign.

Oana is one of the kindest, most warm hearted people I know. She has always believed in people, in doing good, and in showing up for others. Today, she is the one who needs that kindness returned.

In 2025, Oana and her beloved dog, Emma, are both facing cancer at the same time.

Oana’s story

In January, shortly after turning 40, Oana went for routine medical tests. One of those exams revealed cervical dysplasia. At first, she was reassured it was not cancer. After a colposcopy, she was told it could be treated easily. Then she was told conization would be enough. Later, hysterectomy was suggested. Then hysterectomy was no longer an option. Eventually, a Tumor Board concluded that radiochemotherapy would be needed.

During this period, weeks passed without a clear treatment plan. What initially appeared to be dysplasia proved to be cervical cancer. While medical opinions changed and decisions were delayed, time passed and the disease progressed.

Determined to find another path, Oana sought a second medical opinion and found a specialized medical team willing to look deeper and act decisively. Her treatment plan included conization followed by a major open surgery, a total mesometrial resection.

Initially, the surgery was considered a success, with clear margins and only a small chance that further treatment would be needed. A few days later, final pathology revealed lymphatic, vascular, and perineural invasion. The cancer was more advanced than initially shown.

This meant a long and complex treatment plan. Oana has completed adjuvant chemotherapy and is now preparing for the next stage.

Starting January 7, Oana has a scheduled CT scan required before beginning chemoradiotherapy. If everything goes as planned, treatment will start the following week. To receive the best possible care, this next phase will take place in Germany, where her specialized medical team is based. This requires staying there for approximately two months, far from home, with significant costs related to travel, accommodation, and daily living during treatment.

Emma’s story

Just weeks after Oana’s diagnosis, Emma began limping slightly. An X ray was done and treatment was started, with hope that it was nothing serious. Unfortunately, it was.

Emma was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. Her biopsy result arrived on the exact day of Oana’s surgery, while they were physically apart.

Emma required immediate leg amputation to save her life. After surgery, her recovery happened alongside Oana’s. Emma then began chemotherapy under the care of a veterinary oncologist.

In a painful coincidence, Oana and Emma went through chemotherapy at the same time. Their last chemotherapy session was on the same day.

Today, Emma is considered a chronic oncology patient. She requires frequent veterinary visits, ongoing monitoring, expensive oncological supplements, and supportive treatments. Her nutrition is carefully managed, and she now eats home cooked meals prepared daily to support her recovery and overall health.

What comes next

If everything goes well, the next years will focus on maintenance treatments and careful follow up to keep the cancer under control for both Oana and Emma. There is real hope, but the road ahead remains long, medically demanding, and financially heavy.

Why this campaign matters

This GoFundMe exists for what comes next.

The funds raised will help cover Oana’s ongoing cancer treatment, including chemoradiotherapy in Germany, travel and temporary accommodation during treatment, daily living expenses while she is far from home for medical care, as well as Emma’s ongoing veterinary oncology care, supplements, special nutrition, frequent check ups, and long term monitoring.

The coming weeks are especially critical, as most of these costs begin with the start of treatment in January.

How you can help

Our goal is to raise the full amount needed to give Oana and Emma stability and focus during treatment, without the added burden of constant financial stress.

Any contribution, no matter how small, truly makes a difference. If you are unable to donate, sharing this campaign helps more than you may realize.

Oana has always trusted in people. Let’s show her that she and Emma are not alone in this fight.

Thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping us stand with Oana and Emma during one of the most difficult chapters of their lives.
