Update 10/17!!
Thank you.Everyone who has donated or shared.
Oakley's progress has become so hopeful and positive for us. She continues to feel her hind legs, more and more every day. We are seeing movement when she dreams, is tickled and movement of her right hind leg when walked. Some tail movement and better sensation as well and I will be so happy to see it wag again soon.
She has started her cold laser therapy and has been to two sessions. She has a recheck appointment laser therapy and hydrotherapy.Consult this coming monday.
What excites us most of all is her wheelchair was ordered and came in today and her first time in it, she just took off and is so happy. No, matter if it's only used for a few weeks or a few months, getting this for her was worth seeing her this happy. Plus our backs are going to be so much better. She peed on her own already in it!!!
The gofundme will stay at for now.As we still have the therapy to pay for or anything towards her large bill.
Thank you everyone!!!
As many of you may know, we've had a devastating blow to our family. And I do say family in the sense that me and Jordan have no children. And although I've always had many pets in my life, Oakley is more like our child than anything. Just a week ago, we had to make very tough choices associated with our very healthy, large female dog Oakley. And well, money did come into play; we were thankful that we could make decisions that would put us into debt but that would allow us to consider saving her life. She has been home with us a week tomorrow, and we see tiny improvements in her every day. Those tiny improvements keep us positive and knowing we've made the right choice for a risky spinal surgery.
I'm making this GoFundMe in association with getting Oakley rehab at a special clinic just for pet rehabilitation. We can do only so much at home with massage therapy and PT. We want her to have cold laser treatments as well as hydrotherapy with an underwater walking treadmill. We spend all of our days as a whole household catering to her every need, and in truth, it's killing all of our backs. We had not planned to consider a wheelchair for her until we thought that any of what happened would be permanent right around six months or more post-surgery. But we feel that we could relieve our backs with a wheelchair now versus later. Plus, once she is cleared in 6-8 weeks, she's already actively wishing to walk around our yard. Her sniffing around the yard will encourage more normal bathroom behavior as well. Right now, we can only hold her up a few minutes at a time, and it's difficult to allow her that needed stimulation.
So this GoFundMe is for money associated with rehab and getting her a wheelchair. Anything extra beyond those two needs will be put directly towards her very large surgery bill. We fully understand if you are unable to help. We have appreciated all the good thoughts and positive comments given to us so far. We will continue to update and continue to celebrate her small wins over the next couple of months. Thank you so much.
