Our short film is set in SF Bay Area (California), where the skyline is changing faster than people’s lives can catch up. The story follows Avik, a Bengali construction worker, and his friend Hector as they chase a shortcut to a better life, only to find themselves caught in a system that pits workers against each other. After a chance encounter with a mysterious scheme promising easy money, Avik and Hector have a blast reinventing themselves, but quickly collide with enforcement and the harsh realities of the politics of the day. The film explores the pressures of gentrification, the allure of quick fixes, and the shared struggles of people on both sides of the law.

As someone who juggles office work and blue-collar gigs, I know firsthand how tempting shortcuts can be, and how unfairly they’re marketed to those with the least room for error. By supporting our project, you’re helping us tell a story that reframes who the real adversaries are and calls for a higher collective conscience.

Funds will cover coloring, editing, sound design, music composition, and outstanding wages for our dedicated crew—including expenses of the equipment rental. This support will help us complete the film and share it with audiences in NorCal and beyond, who care about justice and community. Your support means everything to us and brings this unusually-usual story to life.
Thank you for believing in our vision!
