On February 21st, 2015 Seth was admitted into the hospital with acute pancreatitis. There are different ways that this can be caused and in some cases they never know the exact cause. In Seth’s case, the doctors believe that a gallstone brought this on. Since being in the hospital we have learned so much about this illness. Pancreatitis is when the pancreas becomes inflamed and it causes severe abdominal pain. Along with this, there can be many complications that come alongside pancreatitis. For Seth, he also has formed necrosis in the pancreas. This means that his pancreas is dying. Right now 80% of the pancreas is compromised leaving him with 20% of a working pancreas. The pancreas also does not regenerate itself. In order for him to recover fully, he will need to have the dead part of the pancreas surgically removed over time, leaving the recovery period of the pancreatitis anywhere from 6 to 8 months of in and out of hospital treatment. In Seth’s case, he has also dealt with many other complications around the pancreatitis. He has had an infectious fluid fill up his lungs causing a high heart rate and breathing problems, a blood clot was found on his spleen and he is not able to eat or drink anything causing him to be on a long term feeding tube. As he continues to have complication and heal from the pancreatitis, doctors suspect that he could be in the hospital another 2-4 weeks before going home.
This process has been a challenge for Seth and myself and has caused us to be especially grateful for each day that we have been given. We know and trust that the Lord provides in every situation, good and bad. We also know that sometimes it is ok to ask for help. We have had several of you ask how you can help us during this time which is why we have set up this Go Fund Me page. We are thankful that we have insurance (albeit a high deductible) but unfortunately there are still many costs that are associated with this hospital stay and on going treatment that we will need to pay for out of pocket. We are trying not to be anxious but it is hard.
Prior to Seth being admitted into the hospital, we purchased a home and the closing is scheduled for the end of March. Having him in the hospital has been an added stress to our move that is coming up. If you wouldn’t mind saying an extra prayer for this piece as well as we scramble to pack up our place and transition while Seth continues to be in the hospital for an unknown amount of time.
We continue to trust the Lord and have no doubt that he will provide for us because he always has and we know he will continue to do so. Thank you again for all your love, prayers and support for Seth and I during this time. We love you guys!
