O'Connor Family and Friends Fire Relief Support
Donation protected
Within the past week dozens of lightning-sparked wildfires have spread across northern and central California burning around 771,000 acres of land. With hundreds of thousands of acres of un-contained land on fire, many have been forced to evacuate with little notice knowing their house, belongings, and livelihood will be consumed and destroyed with little they could do about it
Muirin O’Connor along with her four siblings and parents were one of these families. In under a week, the O’Connor family had to quickly uproot themselves and evacuate from their home in Boulder Creek, Santa Cruz County area. In a matter of hours, their house was demolished by the devastating CZU Lightning Complex Fire along with 99% of the Boulder Creek area. The O’Connor family has split up, spending time at friends' houses unable to go back to their property to assess if there are any remains they can salvage.
On behalf of the O’Connor family, the members of Kappa Kappa Gamma are coming together to create a Go-Fund Me in order to support them in any way we can. Our goal is to raise $3,000 to help them replace basic necessities and essentials, but would love to pass our goal in order to help refurnish their new home when they find one. As everyone knows, fires are a tremendous financial and emotional devastation that no family should have to go through. We are extremely grateful for any donations to support the O’Connor family!
Muirin is one of the most vibrant, intelligent, and kind people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, and I hope that we can all do absolutely everything we can in order to help her and her family at this time. Not only is Muirin an active member of the Cal community, her older sister is also an alum! Each of the O’Connor’s have active roles in their community in Santa Cruz, be it through their high school or community college. For example, the girls spent time during the Covid-19 quarantine delivering groceries amongst other things to vulnerable individuals in their neighborhood who were unable to leave the house. Even in the darkest times, faced with uncertainty about their future and how to rebuild their lives, Muirin continues to be a source of light for so many, including asking for donations of clothes, kitchenware, blankets, and other such items in order to help her neighbors who have also been affected.
