We are Keep Tulla Untouched. This year a prospecting license for gold, silver, barytes and base metals was granted for 52 townlands around Tulla. Trying to find out more about this, we learned that the company that holds the license is a subsidiary of Canadian Gold Mining Company Dalradian. Gold mining is one of the more polluting types of mining and plays an insignificant role in the transition to renewable energy. In Tyrone, Save Our Sperrins have been objecting to a planning application for an enormous gold mine in an area of outstanding beauty. Members of the community have been opposing it since 2015. Shortly there will be a public inquiry about this application. Our friends of Save Our Sperrins will need funds to get experts on board to put forth their case. We wanted to go around with the cap and so we have organised the Awareness Day to highlight mining prospecting licenses in Ireland in aid of Save our Sperrins, Ó Sliabh Eachtaí go dtí na Speiríní (from Sliabh Aughty to the Sperrins). We are dealing with the same Canadian company here in County Clare, so we are putting our banner behind Tyrone.
