HI, my name is Shepard Wakefield.
In September 2015 my 69 year old mother, Yvette, was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, which she was told, was an aggressive form of cancer and that it had spread to her spine and shoulders. After the consultation with the doctors, they felt that she would live less than a year IF she were to follow their treatment of radiation and chemo. Otherwise it was a very grimm outlook and there wouldn't much time left for her. This was a surprise to us, since my mother is in very good health and had no other health problems.
My mom is very poor and lives on a fixed social security income of less than $800 a month with housing subsidies. I have tried helping her as much as I can, and since she has no other children and her family wasn't able to help, we agreed that we have to look for help from charitable foundations and the community. The #1 reason for the Go Fund Me is to raise money for my mom to have the healthiest possible food to eat while she attempts the traditional radiation and chemo therapy. The specialists have explained the importance of nutrution and excercise, which she sees as her best chance to fight the cancer and hopefully extend her life. But unfortunately she can't afford the vital nutrients and supplements that her body needs, let alone the basic food groups that are needed to keep her healthy and strong. This is why I have chosen to ask the public for help. Nobody should be left hungry and dying just because they can't afford good food, including my mom.
Even a few small donations would help, but the bigger goal of providing her with enough healthy dietary options while she is getting radiation and chemo is what will keep my mom alive as long as possible.
Thank you for reading this, your thoughts and prayers would also be welcome. My mom is using her spirituality to keep her focused on living in a healthy and positive way. I only hope a few others out there will have the time to read this and make a difference. Life is so short.
