Hi, my name is Desiree, and I'm fundraising for Lauren Smith Ahlgren. Unfortunately, as many of you know, Lauren was given some devastating news. Lauren is from Texas and a single mother to a daughter, 14, and a son, 12. Lauren has been a pre-school teacher at Kids R Kids Teravista for over eight years. Back in June, Lauren started feeling sick. After much testing and waiting, she was diagnosed with Hemochromatosis and Beta Thalassemia. Unfortunately, Lauren's condition continued to worsen throughout the months. On February 13, 2022, Lauren took a turn for the worse. Lauren went to St. David's Hospital with severe abdominal pain exacerbated by hereditary blood disorders, which became a nineteen-day stay between St. David's Hospital in Austin, Texas and University Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Lauren learned that she needed a liver transplant while in the hospital in San Antonio. The Texas Liver Institute at University Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, is currently awaiting committee approval.
