Pathways to STEM Program Fundraiser
Dear Family and Friends,
Summer will be here in few months and I found the perfect summer adventure. Earlier this month I was accepted to the National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF): Pathways to STEM in Los Angeles, California. This week-long in-residence program will take place at Occidental College from June 24th – June 29th. I was nominated by my 5th grade teacher at Patten Academy of Christian Education. Students can only be nominated by their teacher and acceptance is based on scholastic merit, personal maturity and leadership potential. I am really excited for this experience! I am honored to have been chosen to participate in this program.
This program is designed to provide learning opportunities in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). All of which are widely considered to be essential to the United States’ future success and competitiveness in the global marketplace. These fields will help produce the next generation of innovators, doctors, scientists, software developers and engineers so it is critical that we are exposed to STEM education early in our academic journey. By attending the NYLF Pathways to STEM, I will join other students from around the region in intensive, engaging, hands-on workshops focused on five key skills: communication, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and goal setting.
Here is a sample of the things we will be exploring:
· Leadership with a focus on instilling key leadership skills that students can use everyday
· STEM Career exploration in areas like Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), Engineering Bots & Programming and Medicine: The Incredible Human Body
· STEM Challenges guided by Envision team members, students will explore cooperative problem solving and team dynamics through engaging activities
My participation in this amazing program is dependent on my ability to raise the tuition amount of $2,200.
I am reaching out to you today, requesting a donation to help fund my adventure. In addition to generous donations from family and friends, I am taking on extra jobs at home which add to my goal. I have already earned $100! Any contribution you can make is appreciated and treasured.
Thank you for helping me seize my future! #carpefuturum
