I’m Charlie Cassara and I own two small gyms on Long Island, NY. After the Fitness Industry was removed from Phase 4 in NY, with no indication of when we can reopen, I started joining forces with others in the industry. We have grown in the thousands via our Facebook group and I started the NYFC -New York Fitness Coalition - and we need your help in advocating for all gyms and fitness studios.
We believe strongly in Fitness as medicine and with Governor's around the country categorizing such a broad range of facilities as "gyms" we are asking only for the same opportunity that every other industry was given, to prove we can operate safely and that we are essential.
Sanitization, precautions, and social distance measures will be unique to each facility but we are united in our confidence to keep members safe in our facilities while combating the comorbidities of COVID, elevating mental health, and overall wellbeing. This is why the NYFC has now joined with the USFC- United States Fitness Coalition in order to unite the fitness industry in every state under one banner and one cause.
Our goal has been set to cover the legal fees, media, Government relations teams necessary to meet all our goals. Our lawyer is James Mermigis, Esq. of The Mermigis Law Group, P.C. On behalf of all fitness facilities, we thank you for contributing to saving our businesses so that we can continue to do our job, changing lives for the better. Anything beyond that goal is greatly appreciated and will be used to further our cause with missions such as our takings claim which will help all those devastated by the closure, Congressional bailout reform, and an "essential business" classification moving forward.
Out of respect for the donations, we have officially registered as a nonprofit 501 (c) 6 with an official Board of directors.
