Help Cathy Recover

Most of you know Cathy, but for those that don't, she is a Mom, grandma, great grandma, aunt, sister, and best friend. She would do anything for anybody and is known to bake something just to give it away to a neighbor. She always gives, especially if it involves an animal or a child.

Well, now she needs your help.

On August 20th she had a stroke, and while in recovery, she hemorrhaged. They did a craniotomy to stop the bleeding and relieve the pressure. She went into respiratory arrest and was placed on a ventilator.

Two weeks later, during surgery for a tracheostomy and to place a feeding tube, a mistake was made, and as a result, she required a large blood transfusion. She recovered from the mistake and was moved to a specialty facility. There they weaned her from the vent and removed the trach. Minimal therapy took place here.

September 29, Cathy was moved to skilled nursing and rehab. There she has learned to swallow, and is starting to eat pureed foods. Cathy is also learning to control her breath to learn to talk again. Currently, she can only whisper.

The issue is that the insurance is trying to discharge because they consider her progress too slow. Her daughter continues to fight almost daily with them. They are on their 6th appeal, and as of 11/12 Cathy is regarded as private pay at $439.00 per day.

She has an appointment 11/29 for a CT scan and to start planning the surgery to replace her bone flap. That's correct; she has yet to have her skull bone put back in.

Cathy will require a lot of care when she is released and will stay with her daughter until she can care for herself and be alone. A lot of the care she will require is not covered by insurance but is considered private duty and paid out of pocket. Modifications will also need to be made to her daughter's home so that she can accommodate her mother.

So we are asking for your help. Cathy's only income is social security, and she has no assets.
