NYCHA RESIDENT WITH WALKING PNEUMONIA AND CHILDREN LEFT HOM.

My name is Marie Raphael, and I am a resident of NYCHA Wagner House located in Harlem. I am writing to get immediate help with the severe flooding that occurred in my apartment on Friday, November 22, 2024, at approximately 8:35 AM. A pipe burst in the vacant apartment directly above mine, causing water to flood my apartment from the 10th floor to the first.
I immediately contacted the management office for assistance, only to be told that I should call the hotline and submit a ticket for the issue. I was also informed by management that they could not assist with displacing my family, as the situation was “not their problem.” Despite explaining the urgency of my situation and requesting emergency help, I was instructed to call the hotline after 4:40 PM.
I followed these instructions and called the hotline three times, each time submitting a ticket. However, no one has reached out to me or come to provide assistance. As of today, my family and I are displaced, and all of our beds, clothing, and electronics have been destroyed by the flood. I have a one year old daughter that has a heart murmur and a 12 year old daughter that has chronic asthma.
In addition to the damages to my home, there has not been heat during the days the temperatures have dropped and I am currently suffering from walking pneumonia and need a warm, safe, and comfortable environment to recover. Unfortunately, my apartment is uninhabitable due to the water damage, and I am in urgent need of assistance.
My family and I do not deserve to be treated in this manner, and I am requesting immediate action to address this situation. We need emergency relocation and support to repair the damages in our home.
