My family lost everything when a fire swept through our NYCHA apartment at 1925 University Avenue in the Bronx. I was lucky to escape with my three young children, fiancé, mother, uncle and nephew but now we are left to pick up the pieces. My one-year-old son, was hospitalized and treated for smoke inhalation and because he suffers from a respiratory disorder he may need more medical attention. All the medical equipment to treat his condition was also damaged in the fire. Clothes, furniture, phones, shoes, laptops, TVs, a new washing machine—all gone. Our two cats also perished. My mother was also treated for severe burns to her arm and my fiancé was also treated for smoke inhalation. Any money would be used to help us get back on our feet and especially help my kids, ages 1, 3, and 12, get some sense of normalcy back. I am incredibly grateful for any donations and thank God for sparing us.
