Nya Survived Attempted Murder! But She Is Disabled. Stand With Our Friend: Help Her Heal After A Traumatic Attack That Left Her Arm Paralyzed.
On September 9th, what should have been a peaceful morning run turned into the unthinkable for Nya. A stranger approached her, trying to flirt. She made her boundaries clear, telling him, “No thank you,” but he refused to accept it. As his persistence escalated, Nya called 911 for help and tried to escape. That’s when he pulled out a gun with a large magazine, aimed it at her eye and chest, and stole her headphones. Nya refused to be kidnapped or SA’d. She continued screaming his description and calling for help. She popped his back tire to prevent him from taking her. He shot her multiple times at close range, stole her phone, and left her fighting for her life.
Nya’s injuries were so catastrophic, she needs help to function. She was shot multiple times in the arm, chest, and leg. She suffered a collapsed lung that required two chest tubes and a fractured rib bone. A bullet remains lodged in her lung because it’s too dangerous to remove. This makes breathing difficult. Nya’s arm was shattered and parts of it had to be rebuilt with metal. The bullet wounds caused nerve damage that has left her arm paralyzed. She has to stay on ice packs to soothe the swelling. Nya is crippled because she is ambidextrous. She endured four surgeries, weeks in the hospital, and blood loss so severe that her veins began to collapse. She has several serious wounds that require treatment. Nya faces a long, painful recovery ahead. She is disabled and can’t work for at least a year.
But Nya is more than just a survivor. She is a fighter. She fought to stay alive that day, and she described her attacker to the police. He was swiftly caught and charged with attempted murder. Nya loves the beauty of New Orleans, so she enjoys outdoor running and yoga. She is a historian and just got her walking tour guide license. She loves animals and goes for long walks in the park to see them. But now she is disabled and requires rehab to repair her left side. She needs help with daily tasks, such as cleaning, doing her hair, and grooming her pets. She fights every day now to rebuild her life, regain her independence, return to work, and heal from the trauma and pain of this horrific act of violence.
This is not a fight she can win alone. The cost of recovery is staggering. Medical bills are mounting, therapy is ongoing, and the emotional and physical toll is immense. Plus her regular bills. Nya needs us—her community—to rally around her and help her through this long journey.
Nya has always been a beacon of strength, positivity, and inspiration to those around her. Now, she needs that strength reflected back to her. Your donation, no matter the size, will help her afford the medical care, physical therapy, home help, and resources she desperately needs to move forward.
This is our chance to stand with Nya and remind her that she is not alone. Let’s show her that compassion and kindness will always overcome violence.
Thank you for helping Nya heal. Together, we can help her find hope, strength, and the brighter future she deserves.
