Nyagwethe Youth Center – Home for Creativity in Rural Kenya

The Challenge
In many parts of rural Kenya—especially in the Suba region—education focuses almost entirely on practical knowledge and job skills. This helps children enter the workforce early, but leaves little to no space for creativity.
Even though schools are public, most in the Suba region still require some payment from families. For many, this cost is too high—forcing children to drop out once their “basic” education is considered complete.
As a result, careers in arts such as painting, writing, acting, or singing are rarely an option for children born in rural areas.

The Founder’s Story
Julius, the 29-year-old founder of the Nyagwethe Youth Center, grew up in the same village where the center now stands. He knows first-hand how rare it is for children here to be given the chance to explore their creative potential.
His dream is simple but powerful: to give hundreds of children in Nyagwethe the opportunity to pursue a career in the arts—or at least a safe space to express themselves through creativity.
Julius is deeply committed to making this dream sustainable. Through his banana farm, he will cover the annual salaries of the teachers, ensuring the center can thrive year after year.

Our Solution
The Nyagwethe Youth Center will provide a creative, safe, and inspiring environment that complements the standard curriculum. It will be a space where young people can dream, explore, and build talents that can transform their lives.
We have 450 m² indoors and over 4,000 m² outdoors to work with.
Indoor spaces will include:
  • Dormitory – housing for 20 children from orphaned or low-income backgrounds.
  • Library & Creative Lab – for experiential classes like painting, drawing, reading, and writing.
  • Classroom – for traditional and supplemental lessons.

Outdoor spaces will include:
  • Football field
  • Track & field
  • Volleyball court

What We Need Funding For
Your contribution will help us:
  • Finish the building – windows, doors, painting.
  • Furnish the center – desks, chairs, books, beds.
  • Install solar panels – ensuring sustainable power.
  • Buy creative & sports equipment – art supplies, musical instruments, sports gear.
  • Purchase more land – to expand outdoor facilities.

Funding Milestones
Milestone 1: Finish the building → $2,000
Milestone 2: Furniture & solar panels → $5,000
Milestone 3: Equipment for activities → $5,000
Milestone 4: Additional land purchase → $2,000

Why This Matters
A creative education gives children the confidence to dream bigger and the skills to tell their own stories—through art, performance, writing, and design.
By supporting the Nyagwethe Youth Center, you’re not just funding a building—you’re opening doors to futures that don’t yet exist for these kids.
