Hi, I’m Katie and I’m fundraising to try and help my parents!
It seems like just yesterday, but also so long ago at the same time! June's surgery to remove something ended up being a shock wave that hit my family hard! The doctor actually just called up my dad in the middle of his work day and said, "you have stage 3 aggressive bladder cancer!"Bam!!!
Now here I am after watching my own Captain America battle through all 4 rounds of extreme chemo and doing it like a tough guy. (Not gonna lie, that wasn't easy on any of us!) Losing his hair was when I saw him really go down hill emotionally!!!
I think his biggest struggle physically was the surgery the end of October. It was supposed to be only 4 1/2 to 5 hours, but he was worked on for over 8hrs! Then blood clots & oxygen level issues happened and he doesn't remember about a day and a half because we almost lost him on Nov 1st. Thank God he had multiple teams of specialists checking all the things. He quickly got an IVC screen put in to catch all the blood clots from going from his heart to lungs. He is still battling the low hemoglobin - it's at a 10, should be a 16. He naps a lot and walks pretty slow, but that's fine by me!
He's has fears of getting back to that really bad moment instantly if he doesn't feel good. He really has depended on my mom for everything, physically and especially emotionally. I see them both not in the best shape mentally. But they have been tough and still working through it all.
I don't know all the bills and needs, but they are naturally both givers and not good at receiving. I've heard them talking about things and whether to do or don't ask for help. So I'm just forcing their hand to see what's in store.
Thank you for all the prayers, cards, phone calls, and occasional stops by. It all cheers my dad up a little at a time!
