Kathleen’s Road to Recovery

Hello, I’m Boh Nichols, Kathleen’s little brother.

First and foremost…Thank you for visiting our page.

Our beloved mother, wife, sister and friend Kathleen Nichols needs our help.

On September 13th (two days before her 41st birthday), Kathleen went for her first ever mammogram. On this day, test results indicated that she had an abnormal cyst that presented like breast cancer. On that Thursday (three days later) she followed up with a biopsy to determine if what the doctors was seeing was indeed Breast Cancer or not. The very next day, she got the phone call that nobody ever wants to get. The phone call with a doctor confirming it was Breast Cancer, and in fact a very aggressive form of Breast Cancer. Triple Negative Invasive Ductal Carcinoma to be exact. This form of cancer is different from other types of Breast Cancer’s as This form of cancer grows and spreads faster than other types, has limited treatment options, and generally the worst prognosis.

At this point, this was the start of what was and is going to be a long journey for Kathleen and her family. A journey that is not easy both physically and mentally.

Kathleen’s plan of attack, as outlined by her doctors, are to begin with a double mastectomy surgery, followed by an intense and aggressive form of chemotherapy. The doctors feel confident that this plan will have a positive outcome at attacking and removing the cancer.

With this treatment plan, lots of things are going to change for her and her family. Dedicated to her profession as a full time endoscopy, and trauma nurse, working in the hospital settings will have to be put on hold for a little while. These environments can compromise her immune system and her body during the height of her chemo treatments. Because of this, she will have to endure many doctor appointments, and lots of missed time from work.

Kathleen has dedicated the last 20+ years to helping and caring for others as a registered nurse. Working at some of Maryland’s top hospitals devoting her passion to nursing such as Franklin Square, University of Maryland Medical Center, Shady Grove and Suburban hospital. She worked through the Covid Pandemic, not only regular hours but overtime helping to treat really sick patients….

And now she needs our help.

Our goal is to raise $25K to help Kathleen and her family offset medical expenses during this battle. There are going to be many financial challenges ahead, and that’s one burden we don’t want her and her family worried about. We are looking to collect donations to help her with this.

If you can give, anything to help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to consider donating to Kathleen and her family during their most difficult time.

Kathleen also has a Caring Bridge website set up in her name, that you can visit to get updates and leave uplifting messages to her.

Thank you,
