Hi, my name is Jane Rosenfeld, and I’m an educator and born-and-raised New Yorker. I’m fundraising to bring my first children’s book, Who’s in Charge? Of New York State, to life.
This project started when I went searching for children’s books that explained state government in a clear, engaging way and realized there weren’t many out there. I decided to write the resource I wished I could find: a story that helps kids (and adults, too) understand how government works, using familiar school settings like principals, classrooms, and job charts.
On a personal note, my partner works in government, and even as an adult I’ve learned so many things I didn’t know through our conversations. That opened my eyes to how much of a gap there is in how we teach civics (for kids and adults). I believe we need a major overhaul in civics education, and this book is my first step toward making that happen in a way that’s simple and accessible.
Funds raised will go directly toward:
Illustration costs: I am working with an amazing illustrator to create vibrant, kid-friendly artwork.
Publishing and design fees: making sure the book is polished and professional.
Printing costs: producing physical copies that can reach classrooms, libraries, and families.
This is a passion project, and my dream is to make civics education more accessible for kids everywhere. Any support, big or small, will help me bring this book into the world and eventually into schools.
Thank you so much for believing in this project and helping make it possible!
