Background:
It has been a lifelong dream of ours to contribute to the New York City area but more importantly the South Bronx community, which happens to be my community. We strive to be the inspiration to hopefully lead to the success of the youth here, the same way many people from this exact community were inspired to contribute to my growth and success. Growing up in an area with too many unproductive, and unsupervised kids with ample time on their hands to get into trouble, the New York Fury/NDO is my way of providing the youth in our community with a valuable, and structured program. The New York Fury/NDO aims to empower youth through sports and creative arts programs, providing them with important life skills such as: communication, teamwork, leadership, rigor, respect, and responsibility. We also aim to promote positive values such as healthy habits, self-expression, self-awareness, and community unification.
Program Description:
The goal of the New York Fury/NDO is to teach the youth skills to become successful in life through sports and art. At this beginning stage we are introducing our program through an AAU Travel team for girls. Currently we need funding for Uniforms, equipment, transportation and Traveling Expenses. .The AAU Team will consist of Grades 7-11th grade girls, throughout the AAU Season we will teach children skills that are important and can be used on and off the court. We currently have over 100 participants ranging from ages 6 to 17. Participants engage in fun physical activities in a team format. They learn about the rules of the game, sportsmanship, team building, skills training, positive attitude, self-esteem, and responsibility for actions, all while building lasting friendships and becoming responsible adults, and adolescents.
Mission:
We aim to become the best female basketball team representing the New York City Area. Now where basketball is our main focus it is not our only focus. We want to help these girls have a better future with the opportunity to go on to college. WE want to offer our female student-athletes a healthy environment where they can come and excel on the court but also in the classroom. We dream of bringing the community together to inspire and hold our girls accountable, but also teach them integrity, academic focus and responsibility so they can achieve their dreams.
Vision:
We aim to help form strong student athletes with the “student” portion of that word being the most important to us. We want the students to build and maintain strong academics, but also have interactions with the people in the community, and character development. We want to go beyond the basketball court, we want these girls to go on to live healthy lives and be successful members of the community. We want the girls to be able to look an obstacle in the face and push forward through it.
Goals:
1. To ensure that our student-athletes are excelling both on the court and off the court in the classroom.
2. To create a community of like-minded students and families who support each other both on and off the court.
3. To provide all student athletes with access to premier skill development and strong academic educational institutions regardless of income bracket.
Need:
There is an immense need in low-income neighborhoods for programs that provide activities, and support for children during after-school hours, and throughout the summer. Many children in these neighborhoods are seeking direction and positive opportunities are needed to keep them on track. It is proven that kids who participate in after school and summer programs are safer and benefit from improved academic achievement.
