Help Kevin with Medical Bills
Anyone who knows me knows that I am very protective of those few people I call friends and family. On July 30, 2021, I witnessed something I hoped I never would have to. I was driving home from work and just a couple of cars behind my best friend, Kevin. As Kevin approached an intersection there was a fire truck with lights and siren on pulling into the intersection to respond to a crash that had recently occured. Seeing the truck coming, Kevin slowed and came to a stop to allow the fire truck to cross through the intersection. Unfortunately, as he stopped a distracted driver driving an F250 Super Duty with a lift kit slammed into the back of Kevin’s car at over 60-mph, pushing him through the intersection and nearly 400-feet down the road before his car came to a stop. Thankfully the fire rescue squad stopped to render assistance immediately. When I got to him, Kevin was just starting to recover consciousness and was dazed and confused. The force of the impact was so great that it bent the driver's seat back 30-degrees and crushed the back of his car sending Kevin to the hospital.
I am grateful at the fact that the car protected him as it was designed and he survived, however, now he is dealing with the results of someone’s negligence. The person that hit him does not have enough insurance to cover the medical bills that are anticipated, not to mention the impact to his ability to work. As a result of the crash, Kevin has been in severe pain and has been suffering from speech issues, memory loss, sleep issues, balance issues and panic attacks. After several rounds of tests and imaging, he has been diagnosed with a moderate to severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). It could be up to a year before he knows if the symptoms he is experiencing will resolve themselves or will have a long term impact.
I feel absolutely helpless because I have no way to help other than to ask for your help to find a way to bridge the gap and cover medical expenses that he is going to have to deal with to recover. Please consider donating whatever you can to help. If you cannot donate, please just share the heck out of this so that others see it. I have known Kevin for almost 20 years and he and I have been through so much.
