This is our brother Monte. He's been a hard working man his entire life but due to recent events he has been declared disabled. In June of this year Monte was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer and had to undergo Whipple surgery to minimize it as much as possible. The depth of this story goes much deeper than we are able to put into words but his unfortunate, brave journey started a little over 3 and half years ago. He is forced to live off of disability from the government and now every additional dime he has is forced into medical bills and cancer treatment.
Where It All Started
February 2012 Monte complained about a splitting headache that just wouldn't go away. He was acting different, it was easy to tell he was in a lot of pain. Our brothers Chris and Shane both recommended that he needed to go to the hospital but of course Monte denied that he needed to. Monte has never been one to ask for help, but finally our mother was able to convince him that he had to go.
Soon after they arrived at the hospital, doctors discovered that he didn't have a headache at all, he was experiencing a brain aneurysm. However the Doctors were unable to perform the surgery he would need at that hospital so they had to transport him to University Hospital of Denver. Once he arrived at the University they immediately induced him into coma so they could prepare him for surgery. We were lucky they were able to act quickly on this but they were expressing a lot of doubt that he would make it through the night. Fortunately, he made it through the night and first thing in the morning they began the surgery to stop the bleeding. The goal of the procedure was to put a stint in to stop the bleeding however during the surgery they recognized that there were actually 2 brain aneurysms one in the front lobe and one in the back. The second aneurysm caused more issues than expected and decreased the chances of him making it through the surgery.
Thankfully, the surgery was a success but he would spend the next 23 days in Neuro ICU in a coma. Overall, he spent 30 days in the hospital recovering and the next 2 months in 2 different rehabilitation centers. The doctors considered it a miracle that he made it through everything as well as he did. Monte has come a long way in the past couple of years. It hasn't been easy for him by any means and he continues to move forward and inspire us all.
Earlier this year in June, Monte was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer. It was spreading fairly quickly so he underwent Whipple Surgery in attempt to eliminate as much cancer as possible. He is now currently fighting the battle with Chemo therapy treatment each week. He has a positive spirit and continues to fight with a smile on his face. He'll never tell you he can't do it, he'll never tell you he's struggling, and he is not one to ask for your help. So we are doing that now, to eliminate any burden or stress he has from medical bills, and taking the chance that he is giving up hope and the will to live.
Please open your hearts to help us raise money for Monte.
