NWSS 2021 Graduation

Graduating from high school is an exciting time. Historically this rite of passage consists of large scale graduation parties and celebrations that mark this important transition into adulthood. But for students completing high school this year that experience will look very different. Ongoing measures to limit the spread of COVID-19 in Canada have led to the cancellation of traditional graduation ceremonies across the province. Restrictions on gatherings have also severely impacted our ability to fundraise.
Like countless others, Grade 12 students of New Westminster Senior Secondary have experienced significant losses around celebrations that mark this important milestone. One of the large scale events that enhances the NWSS graduation experience is the Dry Grad Celebration. Each year parent volunteers spend countless hours raising funds and organizing a large scale alcohol and drug free event celebrating the graduating class.
Recognizing that it may not be possible to host a large scale event in 2021, our Dry Grad Committee is exploring alternative ways to honour this year’s Grade 12 students.
Our dedicated team of volunteers is determined to find creative ways of recognizing New West grads as they navigate the final chapter of their high school experience during this extremely challenging time. We have shifted our planning from a large scale event to hosting multiple small scale events in compliance with Provincial Health and WorkSafeBC Guidelines.
As you can imagine, our fundraising efforts are being significantly impacted by COVID restrictions. We are inviting everyone - parents, grandparents, siblings, business leaders - from within our community to support the graduating class of 2021 by helping us to reach our fundraising goals. Your donation will play a vital role in ensuring costs associated with entertainment, venue rental, security, catering, and enhanced safety measures are supported.
We understand this is a challenging time for all individuals as well as for businesses in our New Westminster. Please donate if and what you can, small amounts can make a big impact! Thank you so much for your consideration and support.
