If you know my Uncle Blake and Aunty Hale, you know they are the kind of people who give without ever expecting anything in return. Through their hard work, quiet generosity, and commitment to both family and community, they’ve always shown up for others. Now, it’s our turn to show up for them.

Earlier this year, everything changed in an instant. On January 22nd, Blake went to the ER for shoulder and chest pain. By the next day, scans revealed multiple masses, and on February 12th he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Malignant Metastatic Melanoma — an aggressive skin cancer that had already spread to his liver, lungs, and bones.

Since then, he has undergone numerous scans, started immunotherapy, and completed radiation to help with a tumor in his shoulder. The first months were extremely difficult — filled with severe pain, high doses of medication, and frequent ER visits — but by April, he began to see some relief. In May, his first follow-up CT scan brought encouraging news: many tumors were shrinking. He will continue biweekly immunotherapy for up to two years, with quarterly scans to track progress, and will need to travel to Oʻahu — and possibly California — for additional care.

Before this, Blake had just turned 50 and was working hard to provide for his family. Now, his illness and treatment make it impossible to work. Their ʻohana includes three amazing daughters: one who just became a newlywed, one working alongside the family in their business, and one still in high school at Kamehameha Schools.
