Team Pete - Help Pete Lovejoy

Hi, my name is Jenn and I am fundraising for my nephew Pete and his family. Pete was diagnosed in February 2022 with stage 4 liver and lung cancer. It is a rare form of cancer and unusual for someone so young. Pete immediately started treatment and has had several rounds of chemo and radiation. Last summer, his medical team pivoted to immunotherapy and he had some success with this. Unfortunately, this spring and summer Pete has had to go back to chemo and radiation. Doctors are continuing to pursue combinations of integrated therapies. Pete turned 17 this May and we are fighting to give him many more birthdays.

Over the past few months, as my family continues to investigate the most effective treatments, they have been told that some are not covered by insurance. These are treatments that will hopefully keep Pete with us. Some are fighting the cancer itself, and some are giving us more time. Pete has had the best care thus far and some of the traditional methods are helping but more things have to be tried. This is where it is getting expensive.

Jeff and Johanna, Pete's parents, have had to take off so much time from work to travel to Boston from midcoast Maine, multiple times each month, since last summer for Pete and his treatments. This emotional and financial burden has become so difficult and hard.

These treatments have drained my brother's savings and left our family scrambling to figure out how to pay for them. The current oncology treatment plans are not doing enough at destroying the cancer, like we want and as the doctors pivot to more unconventional treatments we are finding that insurance doesn't cover this as much. Most of these future treatments will only be allowed if payment is available. We need your help. Pete, before cancer, was an incredible athlete, ranked high in three sports and despite all the treatment and missed school is still one of the top students in his class. He has his whole life ahead of him and we are fighting to help give him a chance at living it.

Pete Lovejoy is one of the strongest people I know. So much of his strength comes from his father Jeff, my younger brother, who is juggling so many things right now with family and career and is the driving force to getting Pete the help he needs. As the principal of my hometown high school and a pillar of the community, Jeff would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need and now he needs your help to save his youngest child.

We need your help to be able to pay for the treatments and related expenses, so Pete can have a chance at a future. Our family would not be whole without him and we appreciate any help you can give. Pete is currently heading to Boston for surgery and treatment to fight the cancer and we pray nothing gets in the way of what he needs.
