Support Melissa and her family

Dear family and friends,

My name is Tiahn and I have created this fundraiser to help support my beautiful Aunty Melissa and her daughter Taliah, as she and her family navigate the difficulties presented after a sudden life altering medical emergency.

Mel is an incredible mother to my cousin Taliah, a caring twin, an eldest sister, an amazing daughter, a loving partner, and a wonderful friend to many. Her family and friends know her to be the most beautiful person on the inside and out, whose love and kindness shines through to all those she interacts with.

In the early hours of the morning on Tuesday 13th of May, 2025, Mel suffered a major Middle Cerebral Artery (MCA) Stroke, caused by two blood clots lodged on the right side of her brain. Due to living in a rural town at the time of this emergency, transport to a major hospital with the correct facilities necessary for immediate treatment was delayed by 7 hours. Unfortunately, this meant that the critical window for medical professionals to conduct life saving surgery was missed. As a result, Mel has suffered severe damage to the entire right side of her brain, leaving the left side of her body completely paralysed, limiting her speech, impairing her vision and causing an inability to eat/drink on her own. The stroke has also impacted her cognitive function to a currently unknown severity.

It has absolutely devastated us to see our happy, bubbly Mel in this condition, as we feel there is a missing piece in our lives that can never fully be completed again. Her family, including her daughter Taliah, live out of state in NSW and have rushed to Brisbane to be by Mel’s side through this tragedy.

What the road to Mel’s recovery process will look like is not clear at this time, as we are taking each day and the new information as it comes. However, we know it will be extremely long and most certainly not easy.

Through this fundraiser, we are reaching out for you to join us in providing support for Mel and her family. Any contributions will assist in covering medical expenses, long term rehabilitation, and the costs associated with family travelling to be with Mel in this difficult time.
