As many of you know, John was involved in a work accident yesterday in Chardon. He fell about 30 feet out of a lift and was lifeflighted downtown. John has a total of eight broken ribs, seven of which are on his left side. He had a left collapsed lung, he punctured not only his spleen, but also his liver. His pelvis is broken in a total of five places, what all that looks like yet we don’t know.
He had surgery yesterday within the hour of getting to main UH for the internal bleeding (spleen and liver). He was placed in traction (a pin through his femur and weights pulling on his leg) until surgery for the pelvis.
John is currently in the Trauma ICU and is stable! He has no spinal, neck, or brain injuries, Praise God! John is in surgery as I am writing this to hopefully repair his broken pelvis. It will be a long surgery. His pelvis is broken on both sides and an extremely severe injury from what I have been told from multiple doctors. He will most likely be in a brace and intubated when he comes out.
He is also most likely going to be having another surgery on his chest to plate his ribs. He is not getting enough oxygen unfortunately and he is not able to move at all which is making it harder.
What I do know so far, my husband is ALIVE, TALKING, and CAN MOVE ALL HIS LIMBS! My husband survived a 30 foot fall onto a rocky ground and I’m thankful that he doesn’t have more injuries than he does. It is truly a miracle and I’m praising the Lord for that!
We are looking at an extensive rehab. He will be in trauma icu for a while, then move to a step down, then a rehab/nursing facility. He will not be able get up to be weight bearing or learn how to walk again for minimum 8 weeks.
Please be praying for my sweet husband and for our kids! We have a long road ahead of us and learning what life looks like in the coming months! ❤️
Update #1
John is out of surgery and the doctor said it went very well! He does have an external fixation bar and will have that for 8 weeks where he will be in a wheelchair. We haven’t been able to see him yet.
