Preservation at NVAM is more than just a proposition; it strives to bring an understanding that art should - and must - be kept and maintained within the best possible condition.
Each piece of art in NVAM’s Works on Paper collection has a story, a reason, and a purpose. Artwork like Stand Solidly Now (1964) by Vietnam veteran Richard Olsen illustrate the artist’s world as both witness and participant, with depictions that connect us to the real people, places, and events of their lived veteran experiences.
For these rare pictorial histories to survive through posterity, veteran artwork must be kept and maintained within the best possible condition. The same is true for each individual Artist File, which contain critical information that informs the museum of curatorial nuances about the artist and artwork in the NVAM permanent collection.
