What We’re All About:

Since 1997, our mission on Team 125 has been to inspire young people to be leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based learning experiences that build STEM skills and inspire innovation and self-confidence.

Our Stories:

The NUTRONs come from many communities. Our students stem from 5 high schools in the Greater Boston Area, our college mentors come from prestigious universities such as Northeastern, MIT, and Wentworth, and our professional mentors are FRC alumni that work at local technology companies and in Greater Boston School Districts. Our idea of a community goes beyond town borders, we see FIRST and the Greater Boston Area as our two main communities that we work year round to provide for.

We’re reaching out to help raise funds for members of our team to be able to continue to commute to Northeastern and participate in competitions in New England and other regions of the U.S., and for materials that allow us to build a robot and create effective training programs for other teams. We are grateful for any contribution and hope you will consider donating today!

NUTRONs FIRST Robotics is a registered 501c3 and qualifies for matching funds if you have access from your company.

Alexander’s Story (high school student): I joined the NUTRONs FIRST Robotics team at Northeastern University in the fall of 10th grade to learn more about engineering. Since then I've spent two nights a week during the school year learning about mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering to contribute to building a robot each year to compete at FIRST competitions around the country. Being part of this incredible program has helped me to meet other high school kids from different backgrounds all around Boston who share my interest in making things work. While we attend different schools (Brookline High, Revere High, Boston Latin), we're all grateful for the time and support of the teachers and student mentors who volunteer more than 20 hours a week to help us learn to love engineering.

Andreas’s Story (high school student): Through the team, I attended a demonstration at a place called the Venture Cafe. This gave me the opportunity to be given an internship from a startup that gave me the ability to work with augmented reality for physical therapy. Not only myself, but a couple other students helped with the design and programming of their product. I thought it was not only fun but life changing and made me open up my eyes to opportunity.

Nicole’s Story (new college mentor): When we first started the FLL program I was initially frightened about the idea of being a mentor to fifth graders when I still was only 16, Could I teach them enough about robots and at the same time make it an enjoyable experience? Turns out, It’s possible. I have never been happier to take part in a program that brings STEM to youth in my community, where I could make personal connections with these children and mentor them as they go through the pipeline of robotics programs in revere, where the both of us get to learn and grow together. I’m eager to see what lies in store for the future and excited to aid in bringing opportunities to the kids of revere that I didn't have until I was in high school.

Kristine’s Story (professional mentor): When I first joined the NUTRONs in the summer of 2014, the students involved with the Latino STEM Alliance convinced me to become a teacher at one of the sites. This was completely new to me, as I’m an elementary art teacher, but with the support of the students I was able to gain the skills and confidence I needed to be a site teacher. I’ve now taught 3 seasons of robotics at the Salvation Army Center in Dorchester, and the continued support of my NUTRON students allows me to learn and teach new things. We also get to take a field trip to the Boston District that the NUTRONs host, and this is always really exciting for my Lego Robotics Students. They get to meet the people who create their game and help do their trainings and see our FRC robot.
