Hi, My name is Nutmeg and I am a disabled woman in Portland Oregon. I have a rare disorder called Hemiplegic migraine. This type of migraine imitates a stroke and comes with many severe and chronic symptoms like paralysis, muscle weakness, numbness, migraine pain, etcetera. In the last 3 years my condition has worsened greatly, and my meds/procedures are not all covered by insurance and cost me $400-$1,000 every time I refill/have a procedure done. These meds/procedures barely manage my symptoms for a short period of time but without them I cannot function at all.
In the last year things have progressed even more and it has become very clear that Hemiplegic Migraine (HM) is not all that I am dealing with. I am still fighting to figure out what is going on. And the cost of doctors appointments, tests, scans, and so much emotional labor, stress, and life expenses are wearing me down.
I get no Disability aid or financial support from the state of Oregon because you essentially have to be jobless to receive financial aid that on its own would not even begin to cover anything.
My medical bills for tests, meds, mobility aids, on top of my regular bills, and the cost of more expensive groceries that meet my dietary restrictions are too much. The time I have to take off work consistently for doctors appointments is also not helping.
Cost Breakdown:
The money I am raising is for the following:
- 2,000 ongoing meds/procedures/mobility aids
- 1,000 ongoing test/scans/appointments
- 1,000 ongoing groceries/bills
