Bring the Farm to Our Students — and Watch Them Thrive!
Dear Donor,
At Summit Academy, 90% of our students are in special education programs—and we know that learning for them isn’t just about books and whiteboards. It’s about connection, experience, and engagement. That’s why we’re seeking your support to bring a traveling petting farm directly to our school.
This isn’t just a fun day with animals—it’s a carefully chosen, therapeutic experience with proven benefits for our students’ mental health, emotional growth, and sensory development.
Why a Petting Farm?
Research shows that animal-assisted interventions can reduce anxiety and stress, improve mood, and even increase oxytocin (the "bonding hormone"). According to the National Institutes of Health, time with animals can lower cortisol levels and reduce agitation in children with autism and developmental disabilities.
Here’s how it helps our students:
Mental Health: Interacting with animals has been shown to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety by up to 60% in children with special needs.
Social-Emotional Growth: Animals provide nonjudgmental companionship, helping students practice empathy, patience, and communication.
Sensory Regulation: Brushing a goat, petting a bunny, or listening to the gentle sounds of animals can offer calming sensory input that helps regulate nervous systems and improve focus.
Confidence and Joy: Many students who struggle in traditional learning environments shine when given the chance to connect with animals.
We need your help.
Bringing a traveling petting farm to our school costs approximately $500–$800 per visit. Our goal is to offer this experience just once this year to reach every student in a meaningful way.
Your donation will help us create moments of joy, calm, and connection that our students will remember for a lifetime. For many of our learners, this could be their very first interaction with live animals—an experience that research shows can change their entire outlook on school and self.
Will you help us bring the healing power of animals to our students?
Thank you for your kindness and support,
Erin Stephan
