Help Me Finish My Nursing Degree and Build a Better Future for My Family

Hi, my name is Perri, and I’m reaching out for help to overcome a difficult situation and finish what I started: earning a nursing degree to support my family.

A Dream Worth Fighting For
In 2022, I made a decision that changed everything—I chose to pursue my Bachelor’s in Nursing at Linfield University in Portland. It wasn’t the most affordable path, but it felt like the right one. Originally, I planned to attend a less expensive program on the East Coast, but life took an unexpected turn. I stayed in Oregon, believing I’d have the support of my husband at the time. The support to relocate fell away after the birth of my beautiful daughter, Zo.

The Detour I Didn’t Expect
Despite earning a 4.0 GPA, I was denied admission to our state school. It was a heartbreaking blow, but I pushed forward and enrolled at Linfield. My goal was simple but powerful: to create a stable, loving future for Zo. But partway through my first semester, my marriage ended. Suddenly, I was a full-time student and a newly single mom.

A Roadblock—But Not the End
When my marriage ended, I lost my ability to qualify for the private loans I needed to finish school. I’ve been on a leave of absence since May 2023. Meanwhile, the debt I already took on has come due—and I’m now making $500 monthly loan payments without yet having my degree in hand.

What You Don’t See Behind the Scenes
This past year has been heavy. Emotionally. Mentally. Financially. I’ve been raising my daughter solo while actively working on my recovery and mental health. It hasn’t been easy—but I know healing is the foundation for being the best mom I can be. And it’s a big part of why I still feel called to nursing.

Why Nursing? Because I've Lived It.
Nursing isn’t just a profession I chose—it's a purpose I've discovered through pain. My own experiences with mental health and substance abuse have given me a deep understanding of what many people go through. I want to be the nurse who can say, “I’ve been there—and I see you.”

Asking for Help: Scary, but Necessary
In January 2024, I made another bold decision—I asked for help. I need $18,000 to return to school and finish my final year. So far, 94 incredible people have donated $7,350. Your generosity is giving me real hope.

I'm Doing My Part, Too
Since stepping away from school, I’ve been working full-time, saving $1,000 a month, donating plasma, picking up weekend childcare and photography gigs, and applying for scholarships. Every dollar I earn goes toward returning to Linfield this August. But I know I can’t do it alone.

Thank You for Lifting Me Up
To those who’ve donated—thank you. Truly. You’ve reminded me that I’m not alone in this. And to those who’ve considered donating—this is your sign. Any amount helps, whether it’s financial support, kind words, or simply sharing my story.

One Year Away from a New Chapter
August is just around the corner. I’m so close to finishing this journey and becoming the nurse I know I’m meant to be. More than anything, I want Zo to see that it’s okay to fall, and powerful to rise. That asking for help is brave—and that we can turn struggle into something beautiful.

How You Can Help
If you're able to contribute, I would be so grateful. Every donation gets me one step closer to returning to school and building the life I’ve fought so hard for. If I get back in the fall, I will be a nurse after just ONE YEAR. I’m SO close. Thank you for taking the time to read my story—and for being part of my journey.
