Help Sharafuddin’s Family After the Nuristan Flash Flood

On 20 July 2026, devastating flash floods struck Parun in Nuristan, Afghanistan.

Sharafuddin, a father from Mandesh village, had gone into the valley with his donkey to collect firewood. This was how he supported his wife and children: gathering wood for their home and selling some to people in the village.

When heavy rain began, Sharafuddin tied his loaded donkey to a tree and sheltered beneath a large rock, where he lit a small fire to keep warm. A sudden flash flood surged through the valley and swept him away.

His donkey survived, but Sharafuddin remains missing. Local villagers have continued searching along the riverbanks, but he has not been found.

His wife and children have now been left without their only provider. The family lives in extremely difficult conditions in a single-room home.

## How You Can Help

We hope to support Sharafuddin’s family in two essential ways:

* **A safer home:** Based on a local estimate, **150,000 AFN, approximately $2,300 USD**, could build the family a modest new home with better living conditions.

* **One year of essential support:** Around **78,000 AFN, approximately $1,200 USD**, could provide food and basic necessities for the family for one year.
