Baxter's Surgery
Donation protected
Baxter Duncan had surgery on January 21 to remove an obstruction from his intestines. My wife Meredith is pregnant and due to deliver in July. while working towards paying off current debt before the baby and also saving money for the delivery, we are in an uncomfortable position financially with these vet bills added on us providing unneeded stress for my wife and me during this pregnancy. The surgery itself was a no-brainer, no matter what the cost would be. Baxter is the sweetest dog in the world and deserves to live longer than the age of 2 years old.
Thank you so much for any amount given in this trying time for our family. We are forever grateful for your willingness to give.
TIMELINE:
January 18: Baxter started puking and could not keep anything down on his own. He was acting very strange; not leaving our side ever, trying to get as close as possible, not wanting to go outside. Eventually, he stopped eating or drinking altogether.
January 19: I got him an appointment at Woodstock Veterinary Clinic (his primary care) and got some Xrays and bloodwork done. The doctor told us he didn't see anything abnormal and gave us nausea medication. He told us to come back for another Xray the next day if nothing seemed to get better. Still no eating or drinking the rest of the day. ($900)
January 20: Baxter spent all day laying around, not eating, we had to force water down his throat with a syringe. Woodstock Vet Clinic called and asked if we wanted another Xray. We told them another Xray wouldn't do anything and asked if we could do an Ultrasound instead. They told us that they don't do Ultrasounds on Fridays and told us we could wait until Monday if we needed one. We knew this was serious and could not wait until Monday, so we started calling around. Everywhere was booked except emergency vets so we continued to monitor Baxter at home that night. ($0)
January 21: Baxter went outside at 1AM and finally had a little bowel movement so we were hopeful this was a sign he was getting better, even though it was barely anything that came out. In the morning we tried to give him more food, but he wouldn't touch it and was finally drinking. Knowing we couldn't do another sleepless night of monitoring, we took him to BluePearl Emergency Clinic at 8AM and they took another Xray and sent it to their radiologist. The Radiologist confirmed that there was some sort of blockage and suggested we move straight into surgery. Hesitant, we asked them to run an ultrasound just to make sure we weren't cutting him open for nothing and the Ultrasound confirmed it further. Baxter underwent surgery at 4PM. ($9000)
