Numbers Fire Victims
Donation protected
As some of you may or may not know my family is Native American, we are members of the Washoe tribe from the Western side of Nevada. This past week the Numbers Fire caused devastation to three of our family homes located on the Washoe Allotment Land in Gardnerville. All three of these homes were burnt down due to this fire. One of the homes on the land belonged to my Aunt Nellie and Uncle George who live there year round and the other two belong to my parents and my cousin.
My aunt and uncle were only given a few minutes to gather what they could and get out of their home after authorities came out to notify them. Unfortunately, the homes are located about seven miles away from the highway off of a dirt road giving them even less time to try and escape the approaching fires. Due to the structures being on indigenous land they were unable to qualify for homeowners insurance. My uncle is a Vietnam Vet in his mid-70 now having to rebuild his life from the ground up.
On Wednesday, my aunt and uncle were able to visit the property to access the damage. They found their house in ashes and their entire property burnt. Among the loss were vehicles and their pet cats and kittens. This was a total devastation and utterly horrifying.
I realize that these are strange and difficult times but if you are able to donate anything to help my aunt and uncle, and my other family members rebuild it would be much appreciated. Please feel free to share this link with others and thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
God Bless,
Lehua and Family
